 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Two other vehicles at the x-c ski area parking lot about a mile east of Five Corners when I arrived at 12:45 pm, one from x-c skier that I never saw, the other from solo female snowshoer who broke all the way to the Garfield Ridge Trail junction; I met her about a mile in. She made a Herculean effort, as the powder snow was approaching 18-20 inches deep at the GRT junction where she turned around. |

 | Comments: |
I slogged on to Ghoul hut, arriving at 5 pm, encountering snow depths well over 20", with waste deep drifts. The hardest part is that there is no base, so some steps drop two to there feet to slippery ice-coated rocks. Fortunately, my snowshoes did not break, although they popped off a couple of times. But, with two sets of snowshoe tracks now, at least we have the beginnings of a base. Will be a tough week ahead for breaking trail. I pity the inevitable bare-boot post-holers, who no doubt will be out in force over the holidays. |
