Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room today at the Nineteen Mile Brook trailhead. There is a construction trailer at the southern end of the lot for the bridge repair on route 16 spanning Nineteen Mile Brook.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Uppermost water crossing on the Carter Dome Trail had thin ice that could not be depended upon to cross, used rocks. The brook crossing on the Nineteen Mile Brook trail had a rudimentary ice bridge which provided sufficient support to cross upon. All other crossings easy but be careful of possible ice on rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails generally in good condition. There is one large evergreen (12" diameter)across the Carter-Moriah Trail just north of Zeta Pass. I cut out another tree in the same area.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Some spots may be difficult for a dog due to the sloped ice surfaces.

Comments
Comments: I was able to bare boot (no traction) up the Imp Trail and about halfway up the North Carter Trail before using the MicroSpikes. The upper portion of the North Carter Trail, the Carter-Moriah Trail, and the Carter Dome Trail just below Zeta Pass had lots of ice with some requiring careful foot work even with traction. The worst was the river of ice on the Carter Dome Trail. Even in the higher elevations there were spots with no ice and also some hard packed snow with limited depth. Most tree falls were on or near the ground and could be simply walked over. These conditions will change based on the forecast of snow on Monday.
Nice views of the Presidentials, the Wild River Valley, Baldfaces, Pleasant Mountain, and Sebago Lake. I saw only three other hikers all day.
