the trail starts up a road passing through open fields before becoming a footpath. the ground was frozen with patchy ice on some ledgy portions of trail and marked with yellow blazes. the loop split is not signed, but fairly obvious. i took the left branch which soon reaches a wide open area with fantastic views north. from there it continues up into the woods following a stone wall. the trail itself traverses south for a bit then loops back down avoiding the summit ridge so i bushwhacked up to the top of the ridge and continued south over a couple bumps either of which may have been the highpoint. the woods were open with a fair amount of deer sign. once back on the trail i continued down the other branch of the trail to close the loop.
blaze orange recommended.
a real nice hike. great walking through mostly open terrain with good views. the northern view from the north branch of the loop trail is fantastic looking out over winnipesaukee and to the belknap range. nice bushwhacking up on the ridge as well. noted some cast iron stove pieces and other such rusty junk up around the summit.
