Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The big one about .4 miles in still had enough of an ice bridge to use. It held up, but with rain and warmer temps moving in tomorrow I wouldn't trust it. Other crossing were ice bridged, same caution.

Comments
Comments: Microspikes the way to go right now. There is about an inch or so of packed powder over almost continuous ice sheets underneath, so the spikes were good to avoid slipping and there are no rocks to beat them up. About half an inch of new powder was covering some blue ice higher on the ridge. Forecast for mostly sunny and summits in the clear wasn't the case on the Willey Range today, as it remained in the clouds and fog spitting light snow the whole time until the end of the day. For that reason I skipped the trail to Avalon so can't say how icy that is. Nice solitude today.

Do note if thinking of the 4k's this weekend, there is a lot of ice underneath very thin snow cover, so Thursday's rain then the weekends drop in temps will most likely lead to a very icy Saturday and Sunday (think blue ice sheets) with no snow to gain purchase. Bringing micro's and crampons for steeper stuff would be wise.

Decided to stretch my legs today after getting a text from Sasquatch at 3am from the highland center. We had a very early breakfast there and I had to listen to him complain about how his taxpayer paid Obama phone didn't work in the Dry River wilderness so he couldn't stream his favorite animal planet shows. Boo hoo. 'Squash got spooked when the crew showed up to turn the lights on and he booked it out of there, muttering something about how he was gonna finish the rest of the shine he got from Tickle in Hellgate Ravine instead of hike with me today. No giraffe today either, as he was stuck in the circus. Great day out...roar!!!!
