big work done clearing out the blowdown nest of last winter on Rollins..no other issues today..the saw never came out |

fine day out. Blue berry ledge fine past the McGrillis Jct.. put on spikes shortly after as the lower ledge icy though the fairly soft ice made for good traction. Crampons came on above wiggens where there was some substantial flow ice and many in group left crampons on across Rollins as well. Ledges were a mix of bare rock and ice..a couple of tricky spots but in some places crampons made it pretty easy to walk right up. Nice little undercast from south peak and we celebrated impending santa arrival there and at many spots along the way today.
Rollins was basically flow ice wall to wall with a few packed snow conditions..trail crampons or spikes worked fine. Ascent to Passaconway had big ice in the usual spots tho it was softer and we were all in spikes. Lingered a bit at the summit and viewpoints..Easy descent of Dicey Mill. Kudos to WODC for the excellent step work done on these trails. Great day our with a fun group.. Kudos to Jeff for inching closer to the grail... |
