Comments
Comments: Lower section of trail in hardwoods had some new snow over wet soft trail with leaves, mud and trickling water. Modest Monorail under new snow after entering the softwoods. I put the snowshoes on after a bit of a posthole shortly after getting on the monorail and kept them on until returning to that area. They gave me good traction up and were fun to boogie with down. Pepper and I hiked up in the snow and wind and clouds. Up on the ridge there was 1-3 inches of new snow, drifting a bit so my snowshoe trail could be gone but others probably left more permanent evidence. I managed to follow the trail with a couple of short false spurs when I had trouble seeing the next blaze, but it is painted pretty well. There is almost no monorail up on the ridge. On my return leg I ran into two groups of two guys barebooting up. They had postholed in scattered clusters, but it wasn't as bad as I expected it would be outside those clusters. They had snowshoes so perhaps on the downhill they'll get used. No views, no forest nymphs, and no sun, but another taste of hiking into the hall of the gods of winter was great and the snowshoeing superb. Definitiely more fun than hiking it in summer. Pepper gives it a paws up.
