Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Black ice on some rocks (ones just below the water were ice-free of course). We bypassed the first 2 crossings of the North Fork on Cedar Brook Trail on a herd path that kept the river to the left (the herd path petered out half-way to the trail, but just keep the river within earshot). Glad we did too, the second of those crossings would have been tricky. Otherwise we were able to make all crossings essentially at the trail crossing. Bareboots going out, but microspikes coming back.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: In good shape, no issues to report.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't see any, but should be fine (watch out for paw icing from the crossings).
Bugs
Bugs: I think we are finally done with those this year!

Comments
Comments: A small Meetup group, we headed for the Hancocks today for something sheltered, given the high winds and cold weather forecast for the day. It was a good choice, as we only felt a little bit of wind here and there, the worst at the top of South Hancock as we started our descent. 2 degrees F on South Hancock at 1PM. The wind was howling above the trees though, glad we had no exposure today.

Saw several others out on the day, a couple solos and a group of 2 and a group of 3. The only real excitement today was Patrick's car refusing to start at the trailhead when we returned. We got him home and he got his car towed to a garage, but it's a reminder that the cold weather doesn't always treat cars well. Make sure your co-hikers' cars all start before you drive away!

Thanks to Theresa, Patrick, Jeff, and Alexus for a fun trip.
