 | Comments: |
Airline trail free of snow/significant ice until steeper section before treeline, then boilerplate ice, some with a dusting of snow. Enough rocks still showing about the ice and small easy to bushwhack sections that we did not use traction. Some hikers may prefer light traction for this section. Above treeline on both Adams and Madison, small patches of snow and rime on rocks not really enough for light traction. There are a few small off trail snow fields on the Thunderstorm junction side of Adams. Valley Way had much more ice, significant ice flows the upper 2/3's of the trail, higher ones covered with snow. We put on light traction for the first time all day quickly after we started the descent. Last mile or so of trail, ice and snow free, so no traction required. The weather was perfect and the views amazing. A fantastic late November Presi-day all around with Schorman, Lady Di and John Gutowski. |
