Trails in good condition. Appeared to be newly painted blue blazes on the Mt Kinsman Trail. At the junction of the Mt Kinsman and the Bald Knob Spur there is a trail sign for the Mt Kinsman Trail but no mention of the spur trail's destination (Bald Knob). Cut and removed two trees that crossed trail just uphill of the aforementioned junction. Otherwise no obstructions. |

| Comments: |
There was a lot of ice on the trails. At lower elevations the ice was infrequent. Higher up the ice cover increased. The ice on the Mt Kinsman Trail was easily avoided with minimal effort. The ice was more prevalent on the Kinsman Ridge Trail. I was able to hike all the way to South Kinsman without the aid of traction but it required attention to foot placement. I opted to use Microspikes from South Kinsman back to the Mt Kinsman Trail. Removed the traction for the descent down the Mt Kinsman Trail. There is only a light coating of snow in places otherwise it was bare frozen ground.
Great visibility today. Could see the high peaks of the Green Mountains.
Took the short side trip (signed) to the Kinsman Flume. Some beautiful ice on the cascades by the Mt Kinsman Trail. The only other hiker I saw today was Ducky on the Kinsman Ridge Trail. |
