Comments
Comments: only a trace of snow, mostly above 3200 feet but many patches of ice hidden beneath the fine snow cover. Barebooted to the base of the steep ledges of Whiteface but had to get around significant areas of ice on the lower ledges of Blueberry ledge trail. Steep Ledges required great care as black ice covered in a dusting of snow made them particularly treacherous.Put micro spikes on here. There was a fair amount of ice on the Rollins trail and kept the micro spikes on until Dicey Mills. Turned out there were significant sections of ice on Dicey Mills to the summit although I could get around it but did use micro spikes back down to the Rollins junction before taking them off for the rest of the descent. It was warming up to above freezing as I returned to the trailhead and noted the previously snow covered ledges on Whiteface had melted as I looked back. Tomorrow's conditions will be determined by how much of the melting snow/ice up there evaporated before refreezing tonight. As there was such a thin coat of ice/snow, it may be much better. Today's sun was warm on those south facing ledges.
