Snowing at parking lot at 7am at crawford notch - enough for snowplows to be running to keep clear this treacherous section of road, 14F temperature. Most of the trail was covered with 2-3 inches of powdery snow making it a beautiful trail but more difficult to manage all the rocks. Mt Jackson peak had 6+ inches of snow with deeper drifts, 4F temp with 25mph wind. I attempted to continue toward Mt Webster but turned back when the drifts were deep enough that I wasn't 100% sure of the trail and was butt sliding downward and into areas that looked like potential spruce traps. Not a risk I was willing to take solo. |
