Comments: Time to start posting conditions again! I would recommend dull microspikes at present, but I am sure Friday's rain will change things. Past the hut there is a trace to an inch of snow with ice hiding underneath going to Zeacliff. A little way after Zeacliff the snow depth was in the 1-2 inch range, I opted to put my (old, dull) spikes on for this stretch ascending, then wore them down most of the way to hut for more efficient hiking. Of course I'm sure there are some reading this who will never put them on, and an Everest trip report by them might read, "barebooted until the Hillary step, though some may feel more comfortable in microspikes on the sideslope over the Western Cwm."

Nice to be hiking in the snow again in these "winter light" conditions. Temps in the 20's today, light snow showers fell most of the morning. The grey jays on Zealand summit are so well fed they could be on the biggest loser or at least provide Foie Gras for a fine dining menu. Some yahoo even left a whole apple for them.

Great to be out!
