Water Crossing Notes: Low water meant the rock steps were easy to use.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All blowdowns were removed in Spring. 2 or 3 fresh firs about 8" dia in the flat saddle between the steep slopes the trail traverses. Over 90% of the waterbars are full of sediment and failed, many sites that seem to have had bars are completely demolished by floods of water and Vibram. Long stretches of trail on easy-moderate grades are so lacking drains that water gets momentum enough to blow out rock steps. Rather a shame, because there are many rock steps and drains on this trail. This trail needs a level 2 rebuilding crew of 4-6 people who can hike their tools to the top and work their way downhill restoring each fixture in turn. Ideally they could sleep in hammocks beyond sight of the trail, filter water, and be resupplied with food on the third day of a five-day work week. When they move more than 1/4 mile downhill of their camp they shift camp another 1/2 mile downhill by packing camp gear down to the present jobsite after breakfast cleanup, then stopping work in time to set up a new camp to cook supper. Sleeping in hammocks opens up many more sites. The type of work and the number of jobsites indicate that such a crew is needed to stabilize this trail, which now suffers from moderate-severe erosion. At 1100h on 10/13 there were more than 50 cars in the lot and along the road, plenty of traffic to justify the work.
