Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: On the Gale River Trail, there were a few small easy ones, and one that was slightly larger and slightly more complicated. None after that.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: After so many dry days, all the mud pits on all the trails had dried to about the consistency of modeling clay, so they were easy to get through.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Someone better bring plenty of doggie water for you, since there are hardly any slurping spots on these trails. Take care of your foot pads; this area has a lot of rough and rocky trails. You know you're not allowed inside the huts; we saw two poochies get the tsk tsk from the croo for illegal hut entry.
Bugs
Bugs: At least two species of flies were seen and heard but not felt.

Comments
Comments: I decided to include one hut hike on my quest for the 48. Yes of course it was Galehead Hut, for reducing single day distance and elevation gain enroute to The Bonds. My hut-loving friend Diane agreed to join me, and we had much deliberation over exactly how to approach this hike. We settled on a 3-day, 2-night trip, with the middle day being an out-and-back hike to the three Bonds from the hut. We brought our own breakfast for that day in addition to two lunches, so we could be on the trail by about 6 am. It was a long day but the scenery and views were spectacular and the weather couldn't have been much better. We're not the fastest hikers so we made it back to the hut at 5:45 pm and the dinner bell rang punctually at 6. Call us what you want but don't call us late to dinner. It would have been nice to take longer breaks than we did in some places, but overall it was a terrific day to visit these three exceptional peaksss!
