Comments
Comments: TimC's report was still applicable on our hike up, but the trail was changing on my hike down as barebooters chewed it up a bit in places and more snow melted on the trail, and more of both was certain. There was a bit of a monorail between the two peaks and just a hint of one on Mt. Kinsman. I put the snowshoes on after the last major crossing and kept them on until my return, except for S. Kinsman's very top. The downhill boogie in them was fun as usual. I was the only snowshoer, the rest of the hikers I met were barebooters or microspikers when I met them and I didn't see many carrying snowshoes either. Even met one guy in sneakers and cotton T getting a late start who was surprised to hear there was a fair amount of snow on top. Mud and water on the first steeper sections down low causing trail spread. After a fun wintry bushwacky hike on Moriah last week, getting to meet Silverfox and share Loanshark and Liz's final 48, this was for the most part a "summery" hike by ourselves. We lounged on S. Kinsman it was so nice. We didn't see anybody until the return leg got to N. Kinsman, and there and later we met almost as many dogs as people. Nice to meet J&J however.
