Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Breezy Point road fine almost all the way to the TH. I got my Corolla up to the large open area which could fit quite a few cars. On our return there were 3 cars parked a short ways down the road before the more eroded section. They may have been the mountain bikers that like this trail. I think there used to be a sign on Rt. 116 about the Carriage Road but it is no longer there.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock steps for the non bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Carriage Road a mix of pleasant old woods road and open, rocky, wet & muddy sections. There's a major blowdown before a bridge down low, and a nuisance blowdown on the bridge. Some of the upper waterbars could be refreshed. The ridge section was great. Gorge Brook rocky but easy, in very good shape. New Wales Carter Connection in very good shape for a new trail; what an incredible amount of work went into it. Thanks! Hurricane section in great shape with a splendid footbed through a nice woods. Two easy blowdowns remain; I took out the worst one.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: On a scale going from -4 to +4 paws, Pepper would give this hike a 2 paws up. Most of the hike lacked any sip n dips, he got a lot of warm sun high and I was constantly directing him to the side as we passed a ton of hikers going up Gorge Brook as we went down. There were small drains up high on Carriage that had water if a dog got really thirsty, however. On the plus side we had the trails to ourselves until the ridge and all along Hurricane, temps were comfy and the pawbed pretty good. We saw several other nice dogs enjoying their hikes.

Comments
Comments: What a contrast with yesterday's wet and muddy (but wonderful) hike up Reel Brook to the Kinsmans. The few mud spot were easily avoided, the slopes were modest, and there was way less water on the trails or needing to be crossed. Likes yesterday we had the access trails almost to ourselves.

It was so nice to chat with Sandy on the peak during lunch, and to finally meet Tim and Galen on Gorge Brook. Yesterday I was awed by thinking of Larisa & Rob running the rough and tumble Kinsman Ridge trail that slowed my descent. Today I was awed by thinking of Tim's multi-round winter 4K hikes. Once again hiking cured the nasty lower back ills that plagued me all week; the only hard part each day was the drive. If Pepper would learn to drive I could lie down on the back seat.
