When you reach the steeps, part way up where the trail normally crosses the gully, the snowshoe trough does not follow this but bushwhacks up the mountain through open woods to the ridge. It then follows the ridge east until it rejoins the trail. Despite high snow depth up high, the trail between the peaks was easy too follow with minimum branches to push through.
