Trails
Trails: Avalon Trail, A-Z Trail, Mt. Tom Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, July 22, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We started a little late at 11:00 am and there was still a few spaces to be utilized.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Three which were not bad at all. Rock hopped on two and the other was pretty much dry, very little water flowing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was very well marked with (Yellow) blazes. The first mile or so will need some water bar work in the future as some of the wood based water bars are decaying quite a bit and will have a hard time diverting alot of water anytime after heavy rain. The other issue was some mud pits they may or may not dry out if we ever get enough dry days, However a few duck walks would be of benefit.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We did not see any dogs, However there was a few spots to drink from but once you pass the last water crossing and you are a little more than a mile from the peak of Tom there is no more water so it is good idea to have some water for your animal.
Bugs
Bugs: Some but no big deal since we had sprayed at the lot.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing to report.

Comments
Comments: My wife and I had good day out. It was hard work. My wife just finished #8 I am very proud of her. She supported me as I had worked on them and now she is doing awesome so that she can enjoy some of the magnificent beauty which is the White Mountain Experience. We met several very kind people, One was a young man who passed us on his way up and who came back to us to let us know that we very close to the Tom spur because Our knees were acting up and as it would be we were wondering if this was the day to complete this, His kind words were what we needed to forge ahead.
