| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking when we arrived at Caps Ridge lot at 7:15. Lot was full with overflow lot and cars parked on side of Jeff Notch Rd when we left at 6. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails were dry and in good shape. At about 1.2 - 1.5 miles up Caps Ridge, the scrub is growing in pretty close and could use some brushing. Other than that, these trails are in great shape. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Plenty of dogs today. Note for those who have not hiked this trail before: smaller dogs may need some help on some of the ledge scrambles going up the Caps. Use good judgment on whether the rough and jagged rock so common on the Northern Presi's is suitable for your pup. Many handle it well but others could cut their pads on this rock. Think of your dogs well being first and don't bring him/her if you aren't confident they can handle it. |
|
| Bugs: |
Small annoying flies at the 1.0 overlook and here and there heading up the Caps. Not too aggressive, but a nuisance. |

| Comments: |
Had a moderate overcast for most of the trip up the Caps with intermittent clearing for some views. Skies cleared nicely as we left the summit and headed down the Castle Trail. We were treated to excellent views of the Great Gulf, Auto Road, Washington and the southern Presi's as we headed down to junction of Great Gulf Trail and the Cornice. Great views as we descended back down the Caps as well. An excellent day on the trails! |
