Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were 16 total worthy of note. All were rock hoppable with a couple requiring a step into a couple inches of water. Ten of them would have been interesting if the water was a little higher. Most crossings were well marked with white diamonds marked "PATH". A couple of the higher ones in Castle Ravine had quite a bit of debris piled up.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Only a couple blowdowns but nothing that made you leave the corridor. Cairns were all easy to follow above treeline. Edmands Col Cutoff was brushy and had lots of loose rock.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie handled the ravine and boulders well today. She only needed a push in one spot in Castle Ravine. Not much water above treeline other than puddles. Gulfside Tr and Edmands Col Cutoff had a few trickles across the trail. I would not reccommend Castle Ravine Tr or The Cornice for out of shape dogs. There was lots of sharp boulder hopping.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies on the Castle Ravine headwall, The Cornice/Caps Ridge Tr junction, and at Emerald Bluff. Other than that, they were barely noticeable.

Comments
Comments: A round about way to climb Mt Jefferson. Up Castle Ravine, circle the summit counterclockwise, tag the summit, then loop back to Edmands Col by way of Edmands Col Cotoff, then zig zag back to the start. The summits were in the clouds not long after sunrise despite the optimistic forecast. A fun adventure none the less and got some good redlining done. :) Castle Ravine Tr is lightly used but not too difficult to follow. The trail ascends the headwall mostly on boulders. Emerald Bluff was spectacular but the black flies drove me off after 10 minutes.
