Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All were rock hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Only a couple blowdowns on Mt Osceola Tr, easy to go over/under. The reroute of Greeley Ponds Tr is underway. The Greeley Ponds Tr is still closed south of the lower pond to the Timber Camp Tr. The new reroute will follow the Timber Camp Tr high above the river for almost before dropping back down to the original route. Interesesting trees dropped across the trail near the southern end of Greeley Ponds Tr to help prevent future erosion.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie had a blast despite the heat. We took a slower pace today. Plenty of water along the way and shade was abundant.
Bugs
Bugs: Out in full force below 2500'. Gnats (mostly), black flies, skeeters, and deer flies. They chased me up Tripoli Rd and caught me again south of Lower Greeley Pond.

Comments
Comments: Walked up the road at 6:30am and only saw one parked car the whole way. Warm and humid over both peaks and even warmer down low. I saw the only other people of the day (10) while descending from East Peak. South of Lower Greeley Pond I bushwhacked along the river, sometimes on the east side, sometimes on the west side. I got a good look at the Irene damage along way. Three bridges wiped out and parts of the old trail now belong to the river. Chainsaws could be heard just south of Greeley Brook and there was pink tape marking the trees. I'm glad to see this area will be reopened soon but I will miss the easy grades of the old trail.
