Middle Carter, South Carter, NH |
| Trails: |
Camp Dodge Cutoff, Imp Trail, North Carter Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Nineteen Mile Brook Trail |
| Date of Hike: |
Saturday, July 6, 2013 |
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking fills up quick on Route 16 at the Nineteen Mile Brook trailhead. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Three crossings on the Carter Dome and Nineteen Mile Brook Trails were very rock-hoppable, or easy to walk across. Trekking poles help if you're unsure of your balance. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There were some large birch down across Imp Face or North Carter Trail, they impeded travel. Otherwise, the trails are in great shape aside from awful erosion on Nineteen Mile Brook and Carter Dome Trail (easy to walk around, but deep). |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Plenty of water near the bottom, especially on Nineteen Mile Brook, not much on Imp Trail, North Carter Trail, or Carter-Moriah Trail, and only on Carter Dome Trail at lower elevations. The trails are good for dogs and the crossings won't be hard for them. |
| Bugs: |
Only black flies the whole day, and not many. |

| Lost and Found: |

| Comments: |
We parked at Nineteen Mile Brook and walked along the road to Camp Dodge and used the cutoff (which isn't very obvious if you're not familiar with it and is not well marked) but it makes for a great loop wherein you summit the Carters and end up at your car. |
