Comments
Comments: Spring snow top to bottom, wore snowshoes roundtrip. Jewell was a little beat up from boots this morning, but snowshoe traffic helped fix it a bit. Slow going due to blowdowns and low branches. At about 4,500 or so feet, I beelined to Sphinx Col across the snowfields, then stayed somewhat west of Gulfside and Jefferson Loop to the summit, avoiding some dangerous sideslopes. Snowshoes were great, but I was glad I had crampons and an ice axe at the ready - almost wanted them in one short section north of the col. Skiers were also making it across to Jefferson, though some south facing slopes are start to melt down to rock/grass.
