Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Intimidating! But please remember neither of us exceeds 5 ft and Sat night's rain really rose the water level. Prema shimmied across the big birch while wimpy Mom searched all over for a place to ford or wade. I put on my teva's, planted my poles, and prayed. I felt like I was going to get knocked over. Then we saw a guy just casually stroll across the tree like it was a city sidewalk! On the way back, it was a little easier as the water levels had subsided.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Had the honor of meeting Dave, the maintainer for this trail on the way out. I had a chance to thank him for the great work he's done. He had just finished dispatching a blowdown. There are some great steps built in a short steep area early into the hike.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Just one. Lots of water for dogs who enjoy it.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies started appearing close to the summit. The ledge where you get the Franconia views had a good breeze, you can escape them there. Many beautiful butterflies today!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: My dignity at the third river crossing! Prema found 4 green grapes halfway up, hope someone wasn't too hungry!

Comments
Comments: This was deceptive! In some of my books and other references, it says this is a challenge. Other than the river fun, I thought, "This is no big deal, it reminds me of Garfield and gale." But then everything changed... For some unknown reason, I started to burn out and become extremely exhausted. We had planned to go over to South Twin, but I was just too tired and figured the window of good weather we were blessed with could slam shut at any time. Ao we hung out, enjoyed the views, and went back down. So that's #46. Bond and West Bond remain. Oh yeah, after the nth year in a row of missing the Alpine Garden, I was given a small consilation prize - small patches here and there of dipensea and some nice bunchberries.
