Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings not difficult on rocks and ledges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. Mud in many places especially on the Lincoln Brook Trail. Fallen trees on Lincoln Brook and Owl's Head Path posed no significant problems. Some short sections of the Lincoln Brook Trail were indistinct but most hikers should have no problem following the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The only trail that may be difficult for some dogs would be Owl's Head Path with the loose rocks on the slide.
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly few. Black fly bothersome at 13 Falls in the evening.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was a light brown sleeping bag at the side of the Lincoln Brook Trail near the west branch of Franconia Brook.

Comments
Comments: The trails were in good condition. There was mud in sections of all trails. However there were usually stepping stones, logs, or higher ground to aid in passing through these wet sections.
The waterfalls and pools were nice around 13 Falls and the west branch of Franconia Brook.
Saw Mountain Avens at 13 Falls.
The start of Owl's Path marked by a cairn at trailside as well as logs outlining the trail entrance. There are more than one herd path between the old summit and the true summit. Stay close to the ridgeline and don't stray downhill too far. There was some water on the slide but it caused no difficulties on ascent or descent.
Hiked first to Owl's Head and on the way back decided to go up Galehead Mtn since two heads are better than one.
Both summits are marked by cairns. Best views of the Franconia Range were from a wetland area at the height of land on the Lincoln Brook Trail and from the Owl's Head Path.
