Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Tripyramid, Middle Tripyramid, South Tripyramid, NH
Trails
Trails: Livermore Trail, Mt. Tripyramid Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, June 21, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Tripoli Road was closed from Waterville entrance to Livermore parking area (Not updated on WMNF Road Status Page). Had to backtrack through Waterville and take side roads. Route is not very obvious after the golf course. Worth looking at map if you don't know the area. Parking lot itself is dirt but very large and has port-a-johns.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings on lower parts of Tripyramid Trail very easy. Most of upper brook crossings and drainage ditches were dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in excellent shape. Looks like recent tree work has cleared all but a few blowdowns, which were limbed and easy to negotiate. All the drain ditches on south section of Tripyramid Trail were recently cleaned. There is one section of log rails over a muddy section in this area that are rotted/many have broken. Section of Livermore Trail after south junction of Tripyramid is still badly eroded (as noted in AMC Guide) but sides are still firm and walking easy.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is not a trail for dogs. Steep ledges, loose gravel and tricky footing.
Bugs
Bugs: Pretty much everything out today. Lot of mosquitos on Livermore but not biting bad. Black flies, gnats and no-see-ums took over on way to slides and the black flies were particularly horrible on both slides. On the summits you could add in a billion house fly-type flies, some bees and large white-tipped hornet looking bugs that had large rear legs that looked like human legs (hinged like our knees do - freaky looking). Even found a large tick attached to my calf when I got home. Bring repellent or plan on doing the entire trail without stopping more than 5 seconds. No wind to help until very late in hike.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Trails in about as good a condition as it gets. The gravel sections on both slides were extremely dry and loose. Even rocks as large as 4-5' across shifted in many places. Didn't see a single person all day. Never happened to me in 27 years of hiking. Weather was excellent too.
