Lower trail firm in morning. Last section before tree line difficult from past postholing instead of using snowshoes. I used snowshoes there and walked on the side. Lots of tree obstructions because of snow depth. Tired of that, I cut left at tree line and traversed over to Sphinx Col, swithcing to MICROspikes half way across. In Sphinx Col, wind picked up. I was inspired to drop down the East side a short way to get as view, then climbed on steep snow up to ridge of Jefferson, then on the trail to the top. Increasing wind on top, and all the way back to treeline.
I felt free to leave the trail most everywhere above tree line because of the amount of snow.
On way down from tree line, wore snowshoes the whole way as snow was soft. Tried to flatten out some of the postholing on upper section. |
