|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Most water crossings on the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail are bridged. The one crossing lacking a bridge was easy to cross on rocks and logs |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good condition. The AMC trail crew did a great job clearing out about two dozen tree falls on the section of the Wildcat Ridge Trail between Nineteen Mile Brook and Wildcat A. Many of these trees were sizable. There was also work performed in other sections of the trail. A couple of bog bridges partly under water and one plank missing. Met two trail maintainers who indicated that there will be some new bog bridges. I cleared away some smaller leafed out trees that were blocking the trail way. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a couple of friendly dogs including one who traversed Wildcat Ridge. Both dogs were doing well. Wildcat Ridge can be dry at times. |
|
| Bugs: |
There were flying insects today. Mostly flies and black flies. The worst spot was by Carter Lakes and the hut. If you keep moving there was generally no problem with the flies. |

| Comments: |
Decided to use Nineteen Mile Brook for the approach to and from Wildcat in order to avoid crossing the Ellis River. I heard from other hikers that the crossing was doable with care.
There was some running water on the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail especially between Carter Dome Trail junction and the Notch. However, there was no problem walking through this area.
There was a small 4'X8' snow bank remaining to the south of Wildcat A which was easy to skirt. The only other snow was small patches in Wildcat Col.
The old summit building at the top of the Wildcat ski area has been removed.
Great views of the Presidential Range from many points along the ridge and a good view of Carter Notch from Wildcat A.
A tip of the hat to the AMC trail crew who made the hike up and down Wildcat A much easier without dealing with an obstacle course of fallen trees. |
