Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Jefferson Notch Road is OPEN despite it still being listed as CLOSED. It was a dicey drive to the parking lot in the morning due to fresh snow but we made it in just fine along with 8 or so other vehicles. There are 2 trees down which are easy to drive around with out going off of the road. Most of the snow had melted on our way back out and the road was not muddy at all, much to our surprise.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Slush, Snow - Spring Snow
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of step over blow downs due to recent snow fall. The trail was completely snow covered right from the parking lot in the morning and an absolute mess of slush and mud and running water on the way back down in the afternoon. Boots were definitely soaked by the end of the day.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't see any and I can't imagine it would be easy for one to navigate up and over the caps even on a dry day.
Bugs
Bugs: None!

Comments
Comments: This is a really fun trail even though the caps were snow covered in the morning the snow was sticky enough to actually aid in traction while scrambling. Lots of snow above tree line; any where from 1 foot to 3 foot drifts in places. I bare booted the whole way but my friend chose to go with microspikes above tree line. The wind was howling something fierce but we came prepared with winter gear so we were quite comfortable and had a ball! Saw lots of people in shorts; some of which turned around and some who continued on to the summit. All in all an amazing day to be out!
