| Water Crossing Notes: |
First crossing at the intersection was higher than I have ever seen it. We went the old route and had to wade in 6 inches of water for 3 or 4 steps. All the others were high also but fine. I had my winter bootsand gaitors on and stayed dry. Others were in low shoes and they either waded or got wet |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
We cleared some branches on one blowdown near the summit |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
None today. Would have been fine for a dog accustomed to the conditions |
|
| Bugs: |
Could the snow even at low altitudes have set them back. None today |

Weather was much better than the forcast. It spit a bit of rain occassionally. There was a pretty good snow shower on the climb and there was freezing fog with pellets of ice across Signal Ridge. Snow was mounting at about 3200 to 3300 feet and was nearly 4 inches above 4k feet. Any lingering ice and monorail had disappeared however so even though we carried spikes they were not necessary. Visibility about 100 feet in dense fog but the ice and snow formations on the tower were the best I have ever seen on Carrigain. Hope my pics show it. Pretty cold and blustry up top. Glad I had some winter gear on. Thanks to BillC for dragging me out on what I thought would not be a very nice day. Turned out to be a great winter type day on Memorial Day weekend and got to catch the Sox win on the way home. |
