Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Streams were much higher than usual on Avalon Trail before the branch to Mt. Avalon and would be very difficult to cross without ski poles, boot liners are useful. Some of the streams flooded onto the trail and resulted in deep (up to 6 inches) standing and flowing water (mostly on Avalon Trail leading up to Mt. Field).
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of blowdowns but nothing major, however serious drainage issues on Avalon Trail and Willey Range between Field and Tom.

Comments
Comments: A seriously rainy day coupled with near-freezing temperatures resulted in snow and hail around the summit of Mt. Field, where most of the treetops were today encrusted in ice. The entirety of the hike was extremely wet, and some areas of the trail were becoming ponds. Some small patches of snow remain near the summit of Mt. Field but traction isn't needed at all.
