| Comments: |
Lower section of trail had sticky snow but no snow balling under snowshoes.
Mid section of trail crossing ski trails confusing to follow, very few blue blazes, best bet is to continue straight across ski areas to continue on hiking path on opposite side of the glades. Tracks meander all about.Turn left on uphill climb at tree with yellow rope and arrow signage. Evergreens crowd parts of trail near Cannon Cliff stretch of trail.Sign for viewpoint on ledges is not visible, high winds prevented a prolonged stay on the ledges.
The upper section of trail to Cannon is difficult to follow with tracks going in various directions. There are no visible blazes and the cairns were buried except for one large rock pile near Rim Trail. The best bet is to use long range orientation to proceed in the correct direction (ascent used the summit tower - descent used East Cannon subpeak). Had to contend with strong winds between Cannon Cliff outlook and summit.
Good views from summit tower. Camels Hump and Mansfield visible to west and Franconia Range dominated the eastward view.
Snow is hard packed with some postholing and divoting from bare boot hikers.
