| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking of Rt. 116, but the sign on the road is tiny and easy to miss. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Easy rock hops. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good shape overall, especially Mount Kinsman. A couple extra bog bridges near the col between the Kinsmans wouldn't hurt, there's a decent mud pit in one spot right now that doesn't look like it will leave any time soon. Not terribly deep mud at the moment. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw several. Nothing much of concern for good trail dogs here. |
| Bugs: |
Saw some black flies, not swarming or biting yet. |
| Lost and Found: |
Reunited an owner and his small Nalgene. Picked up a pair of sunglasses that don't look particularly valuable. |

Great hike today! Trails were damp in spots with some mud but nothing major. Minor traces of snow up high on Mount Kinsman Trail and a few patches of old monorail on the Northern sides of both main peaks, all easily avoided on rocks. Feel free to leave the traction at home, the little that is left wont be around for long and we never felt even a slight desire to use the spikes today.
Bald Peak was great, and the flume nearby was cool too, worthy diversions on the day. Kinsmans were awesome as always! Lots of people out today, most came up from I93 and reported no real problems, basically the same scattered snow/ice that we had. Few had traction with them, and didn't seem to need it.
Thanks Christine for a great hike and congrats again on 4K #33! |
