Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I delimbed a blowdown blocking the Daniel Webster so it should be no problem but it would be nice if removed entirely. There are several step over and one large duck under on Osgood that are easily handled but should be removed along with some debris. All signs are up; the wooden arrows were useful. Water bars all functioning although many could use a cleaning to restore full capacity. But on the whole these trails are in good shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fun day for Pepper. Daniel Webster had lots of water all the way to near treeline; so he had plenty of sips n dips. Enough clouds, nice temps and a breeze made it comfortable for him above treeline despite his black fur. Osgood didn't have water until down low, so he needed water I brought. The boulders above treeline are generally rough shaped with sharpish crystalline structures often on steep slopes, so dogs with soft pads might find it difficult.
Bugs
Bugs: I found one dog tick on me during the drive home. Pepper awaits his tick check. Black flies were not a problem. No skeeters.

Comments
Comments: I needed the Great Gulf Link for redlining, and so we got a wonderful loop hike out of it to a nice peak on a really good day. Pepper really enjoyed the Daniel Webster trail with all of the small drainages it crosses. The trail has good footing and slopes up to near treeline, and then that rougher section has nice views. We ran into and hiked a bit with some nice young adults who were well ahead of but part of a larger group from Quebec staying at the campground, but other than that group we only met a few people, and one dog (Babe), all day. It was a great hike.
