Comments
Comments: A perfect hike for windy conditions when time is somewhat short. There even was a good amount of filtered sun. There were a fair number of cars in the parking area for my late start but I passed only 3 guys in microspikes so maybe there were a bunch of people doing a Twin-Galehead route. I used microspikes until the soft lower section on the return leg and it just got too slow for me and Pepper stepping carefully to avoid trail damage. I put on snowshoes for a fast boogie (too damn lazy to hold back) to the summer trailhead before putting the spikes back on.

The summer trails were well packed and a bit crusty on the way in. The wack angles slightly off the AT, parallels it for a short stretch and then veers up the slope to the hut. The actual trail is filled in; it was only by seeing a white blaze that I noticed the split. The wack was a nice crusty path, with only a short stretch in spruce-fir thickets, and some views. From the hut there are several braids that eventually meet and a nice crusty path goes to the top with some ducking and bending required in a couple places. I was surprised it followed one of my meanderings from 2 weeks ago as far as that went, and then after getting through thick branches it is a pretty nice packed path. Nice job wackers.
