| Comments: |
3-day (T-W-T), 2-night trip to the Bonds. W Trail sledable, though icy/wet and bare spots in first mile or so. W Trail sledable, open drainages not too hard to negotiate. LW Trail and W Trail barebootable. Bondcliff Trail barebootable to treeline on BC - the rock step was totally buried. As noted above, lots of vegetation obstacles on BC Trail. Packed route between 3rd and 4th crossing mostly goes up Brook (it works). Various variants shortly above 4th crossing, all seem to converge near start of traverse. Trail over Bondcliff mix of rock, a little ice, and snow - barebootable. BC Trail up "summit cone" of Bond (starting c. 4400') varies from trail, but works - looks like spruce trap territory. BC Trail barebootable to Bond summit, then snowshoes needed - snow seemed deeper, drier, less sun-exposed; more snow still on trees. Broke WB Spur - route is off-trail for a few hundred yards, then mostly on trail. Note that what is barebootable today may need snowshoes with more snow or warmer temperatures. |
