| Water Crossing Notes: |
First crossing of Crawford Brook is an easy rock-hop. Second crossing: Use blowdowns or rock-hop a few yards upstream.
2 tributaries on A-Z between Avalon junction and Tom Spur have unstable snow on the banks (one is still partly bridge but it should not be trusted) but are generally easy rock-hops.
Waters are rising. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns but all manageable. Great work by the folks who cleared up after the Sandy storm. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs on the trail today but conditions should not be a problem other than the soft conditions may be tiring. |

| Comments: |
Georg and I barebooted to the Avalon junction. Intermittent snow.
Then we put on microspikes and they were fine until Field but it is hard to get real good traction in the soft, melting snow.
We kept the microspikes on over to Willey but it was somewhat tough going - siding off the monorail and occasionally postholing. On Willey we changed strategy and put on snowshoes and although nothing is perfect right now we felt this was a much better choice. We kept the snowshoes on over Tom and back to the Avalon junction.
There are bare sections around Willey and Tom and on the south-side of Field but generally there is still a lot of snow up on the ridge - measuring 1-2 feet - and more in some areas. |
