Not much bare trail - snow and ice started almost right at trailhead. Put on light traction early. The larger water crossing is easily navigated just upstream on submerged rocks. The steeps on the way up East Osceola are a bit chewed but snow is stable enough that light traction was adequate on the climb up. A few icy patches starting to form. Mostly stable monorail between the peaks but softening quickly. The only part of the trip that may require snowshoes. The chimney bypass is completely bare of ice/snow. On the descent, we opted for crampons on the steeps.
Beautiful morning. After a big effort this month, Jeff finished up his April grid! Karine still had a few peaks left though - so we headed off to hike Hancocks in the pm. |
