Consistent snow begins a 1/4 mile past brook. Easy walking on consolidated snowpack. Ridge itself is 75% snow and ice free. Of interest was an encounter with what I believe is called a ghost or diseased moose. About a 1/4 mile from ridge junction I followed recent tracks and noticed copious amounts (easily 100 plus)of large dead blood gorged ticks. Once above tree line, noticed moose on large outcrop that preceeds trip to lafayettes. Kept Grete on lead, proceeded slowly-moose was emancipated and grey, watched me for quite some time and then wandered off. Hope it makes it. |
