Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: On the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, the Gem Pool stream is no longer snowbridged over but was easy to get through. Getting past a second stream by the waterfall a little higher up required a bushwhack because the snowmelt created a near-vertical dropoff, which might become more difficult before becoming easier.

Comments
Comments: Gorgeous blue-bird day. Still plenty of snow on the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. I wore 1-inch crampons, while my wife opted to go with the MSR Lightning Ascents for the heel lifts. There was not much solid ice on the way up to the Lakes of the Clouds Hut, which is what we were worried about; very hard-packed snow, though, which would make descending via the Ammo Trail challenging. One water crossing did require a somewhat difficult bushwhack; see above. From the Hut onwards, we both wore crampons. This was our first time taking the Tuckerman Crossover Trail, and we were glad we did, as it offers awesome views that you don't get when taking the Crawford Path up to Washington. From the Tuckerman Ravine Junction to Washington, it was mostly rock with some ice patches. We both kept the crampons on, but that section is bare-bootable. Walked along the cog rail for the descent in the interest of time. Along the cog rail, there was lots of ice at higher elevation and then snow and finally grass and dirt/mud down low. Great views of the Presidentials on both sides of Washington on the descent.
