Mostly OK. Exposed rocks were ice covered in the morning. I heard second hand that the Sabbaday Brook crossing is impassable and turned 2 hikers around this morning. |

Trail exposed 50/50 under 2.5K, but decent amount of snow left higher. About this contour I put on microspikes. It was 27F this morning and the trail was firm, but by the return leg I was post-holing and it had become decidedly unstable in places. The ridge sections can be tough to follow, as the snow wasn't taking footprints, and I lost the thread a few times, but being a ridge it's hard to go far wrong. Fantastic views from Middle Trip. over Sandwich Range Wilderness; over Whiteface and, on the return leg, north to the ravines of Washington. Winnipesaukee was also resplendent. A privilege to be in these mountains today. |
