| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We were the only two cars in the lot on this Monday. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Spring Snow |
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Some tributary crossings beginning to melt out. No problems but watch for holes. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A couple of minor blowdowns along Carter Dome Trail. Inadequate overhead clearance along the ridge from Hight to Carter Dome. It would be great if overhead clearance could be improved for the benefit of winter hikers (look for bits of hair, blood, and facial skin on the overhead branches for guidance). Most of the signs at Zeta path and above would be better if raised higher to avoid burial by the snow. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Trails just fine for dogs. There was evidence of post holing by a moose. |
| Bugs: |
Saw one single black fly. It did not seem to be hungry yet. |

| Comments: |
Hight summit was spectacular! All trails in good shape. Bare bootable all the way. Microspikes worthwhile. Some of us found snow shoes were helpful between Hight and Crawford Dome. Glissade from Carter Dome down to the huts was fast and hard to control, but fun. Lake still frozen solid. Snow line was at 1500 feet and retreating fast. |
