Comments
Comments: A nice day to be out. Wore snowshoes from the start. I would recommend snowshoes just for the traction as the trail is very hard packed though warmer temps tomorrow may soften it a bit. You might survive with micros but they better be sharp. The chimney by-pass was an ice/rock mixture. Along the ridge between the two summits the wind had blown quite a bit of snow around and it was nice to have a soft foot bed compared to the hard packed one coming up East Osceola. Winds were 30mph at the summit with some stronger gusts.

Saw 8 people out this morning. 4 well-prepared hikers wearing snowshoes and properly dressed. Then I ran into two young men who were enjoying a beer about half-way up the trail to East Osceola. Near the junction with the Greeley Ponds trail I ran into another guy who was wearing no traction, some work gloves, and no backpack. He asked if he could make it to the top without crampons. I asked if he had micros and he said no. I recommended that he turn around. He said he would see how far he could get. I would have liked to see him try and get up some of the steeps.

Overall, excellent morning out. The views on the summit were spectacular, especially the north view point. There is still an excellent snowpack (compared to the zero snowpack at this time last year) and depending on weather should be around for quite some time.
