The steep section on the Kinsman Ridge trail leading up to the jct. with the Hi-Cannon Trail might give pooches some trouble. The ladder on the High Cannon Tr. was pretty much filled in, and would create no problems. |

The Lonesome Lake Tr. was a hardpacked sidewalk all the way to the lake. From the lake the trail was packed firm with some loose stuff and somewhat roughed up to the col before the steeps on the Kinsman Ridge Tr. We wore spikes all day. The snowshoes stayed on our packs. On the steep section, I had my Hillsound Pros on and others had either micro spikes or Hillsounds. It was very tricky ascending this section. Smoothed out by butt sliders, it was hardened with underlying ice. Full crampons and an ice ax would have been the ticket. I recommend bringing them for this section. Descending this steep section would be very difficult. The Hi-Cannon Trail was easy to descend with loose snow and a firm base. Beautiful sunny day and great hike with Bill & Scott Marcotte, and Vinny Couture. We saw no other hikers on the trail, except for two guys headed for a traverse over the Cannonballs. |
