Ammo trail was broken out except the upper section which was a windswept hardpack; snowshoes still needed. A couple icy spots easily avoided. Wore crampons from Lakes of the Clouds Hut to Monroe as it looked rocky but probably could have managed in snowshoes. Switched back to snowshoes from the hut to Washington. Crawford Path was difficult to follow as it was windswept. Couldn't identify many cairns as all rocks were covered in snow, and it was foggy, but I just kept heading upwards and managed. Due to the low visibility I walked down the Auto Road, which is covered in just enough snow for a nice, fast snowshoe down. The fog cleared up around 5500 feet, and I was treated to beautiful views of Madison, Adams, Jefferson and Clay. |
