About a foot of new snow on above 3000'. Two hikers ahead of me broke trail, but it was still tough going for #3. It's in better shape after these hikes, though snow shoes are mandatory. The two guys ahead of me didn't like the look of the last part to the summit, just past Flume Slide intersection. I took it very carefully, the worst of it being the first slide and the scramble immediately on the other side. Osseo is a wonderful trail, but if you want to be sure of bagging Flume in "winter" do it the other way, just in case. On the summit the cloud ceiling kept dropping and it was cold and windy, so I didn't hang around. Nice fast descent and a couple of soft snow glissades. |
