Started up the crawford path at about 6:30 in snowshoes on a very nicely packed trail. Drifting started to become an issue as I gained elevation. Some very significant drifts as I broke out of the trees nearing the Webster cliff junction. Some of the drifts were taller than me. Reached the peak of pierce at around 8:30 and enjoyed breathtakingly beautiful views. Continued from there plowing through more drifts until I got down to the trees on the way to Ike. Here I decided to bypass Ike and catch him on the return. Once I passed the junction for the Eisenhower loop the trail was unpacked with huge drifts. Plowed through it enjoying amazing views.. and a little lunch. Once I got past the second loop junction, the snow become less.prevalent and I switched to micros for the rest of the day. Continued past mt franklin and hit the Monroe loop, making a stop at the peak for some photos. From the bottom of the loop I packed out the Crawford back to the south end of the loop. From there it was a fairly easy trek to Ike where I sat for awhile and never wanted to leave. From there it was a nice glide back to the trailhead. So gratefulfor the nice bluebird day to close out winter 2013 |
