Trails to N. Hancock bare bootable. We wore a mix of bare boots, light traction, and on steeps up North, used MSR heel lifts. On the whack from North to NW Hancock, we wore snowshoes on a firm base with two to three inches of fluff on top. Incredibly good conditions for a whack as we were able to walk over most blowdowns and rarely encountered spruce traps. The anticipated pig stickers and snow-laden branches were there to great us in the thick stuff. Lots of reasonably open woods between the summits. The register was signed. Though cold, the forecasted winds were not much of an issue. Another done for the Trailwrights' winter list. Thanks to Glenn S for a great hike in the north country. |
