Got a late start but got up to the ridge before clouds descended over the Presidentials and Franconia Range. Terrific views. We used snowshoes until East Osceola and crampons from there. The steeps and the ridge are a somewhat choppy as hikers have kicked out steps particularily on the sides. Snow was hard today. Some were wearing spikes but I preferred crampons for extra traction. The steeps were managable but it would not be a good idea to glissade. The chimney was a little icy but the hand holds are uncovered. All in all a great day and nice to see Steve Smith and JR at the view point just below East. |
