Comments
Comments: stellar above treeline day..not much to add to previous reports though we took different routes. Ammo was hard packed above gem pool and we put on snowshoes for the day there which gave the traction and flotation we were looking for. Saw many in crampons which seemed way overkill. From the hut to Monroe snowshoe route cuts straight up meeting the trail about half way. Crawford Path to Westside a nice packed out track with sidehills very solid. We cut up the snowfields from there..steep but excellent footing and pretty direct. Great to see Schorman and Di, Dave and Bill on the summit of Washington. We cut the corner on descent and followed snowfields to where westside crosses the cog what a blast this was. Some different up here than a couple of weeks ago when it was all rocks and ice,,Way easier going!!! Nice snow track most of the way to Jefferson which had several groups converging at the same time. Glorious light headed back across..we took the Jewell cutoff which saved a little climbing but did not avoid the sidehills. Lower Jewell getting pretty soft in the afternoon and well smashed up by barebooters in places. Congrats to Sarah and Ali for a whole bunch of check marks off their winter lists!!!
